Netscope Column Getting a Job Finally, a site that caters to the specific needs of Thai online Job-Hunters. But a recent E-mail I received from reader "@Venus@" included a link to a site conceived especially for Thai Job Hunters, Jobbees.com http://www.jobbees.com/. "@Venus@", who has a computer science degree, found her own job at Jobbees.com, and judging from what I found on a tour around the site, other Thai applicants qualified in a wide range of fields may do just as well. The homepage has links to areas in the site for job seekers and for employers looking for personnel. If you are looking work, you’re invited to post your resume by filling out a provided online form. It will remain in the data bank for 60 days, unless you remove it or request to extend the listing. Jobbees states that the name of an applicant and his or her present place of employment will be kept confidential. You can also browse through the 956 jobs currently open, either by company name or by job description. Employers are invited to evaluate the currently 381 posted resumes categorized by the type of position sought, or to post a job opening that they want to fill. Besides these listings, Jobbees also has a number of features that will be helpful for job seekers. On a “Tips” page, the site’s creators start off with a modest disavowal of any claim to special expertise, but then go on to explain that they have 10 years of personnel interviewing experience behind them, during with they’ve seen the entire spectrum of success and failure. This is followed by pages of extremely valuable and detailed advice on writing resumes, dressing for and behaving during interviews and questions to be anticipated for jobs in different fields. There are also a few bonuses here, like a printable coupon that entitles the bearer to discounts at some listed shops, hotels, hospitals, etc…and even some basic Japanese lessons. Much of the information on Jobbees is written in Thai, with only a few introductory notes in English. One of its most attractive features, together with the wealth of information it contains, is its feeling of “Thainess”, so welcome on a World Wide Web that normally expresses itself with a strong American accent. What is written in English here could do with a little editing, but it makes its point nicely: “ (All of our) services were designed especially for Thai people because Jobbees.com is 100 percent owned by Thais, who (know) absolutely what you want. “ Bookmark this site right away if you are looking for a new job, or even if you’re not because, after all, these days you never know.
